Darryl Matthews McDaniels, born May 31, 1964, is an American rapper and musician. D.M.C. is his stage name, and he is a founding member of the hip hop group Run-D.M.C. Darryl Mcdaniels is also regarded as a forefather of hip hop culture.

Unfortunately, because his mother was not married, he was surrendered to the New York Foundling home and became a ward of the Foundling, living in foster care until he was placed with the McDaniels and eventually adopted by them.

Darryl went to Rice High School in Manhattan before attending St. John’s University in Queens.

McDaniels became interested in hip-hop music after hearing Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five recordings. McDaniels learned to DJ on his own in the basement of his parent’s house in 1978.

He used the turntables and mixer he purchased with his older brother, Alford, after a comic book sale
